Not sure how vasko fits the crew let alone the skipper on board I love your innovative thinking and love of gadgets vasko - it’s three steps ahead of a lot of us but challenging and thoughtful

In looking at installing some dometic blinds. - has anyone experience of these and in particular cutting them down where the blind is too big but the next smaller size is too small

I’d like to put markers on my main halyard at the approximate area it is to be cleated for the first and second reefs allowing me to cleat if off more quickly Is there a way to mark a halyard such that the mark is easily visible but won’t get caught in the Sheeve at the top of the mast

Hi, We had a similar issue last year when we got a new main on our SO409. Found it very difficult to zip up the bag. During the winter my wife made up a new canvas panel the full length of the bag and about 30cm wide. It has zips both sides of the panel. We also replaced the zip on the original bag so the new panel just zips in between them. This basically increases the sail bag width and easily accommodates the 'stiffer' clew end of the sail. You only need to unzip one side of the new panel when raising the sail. The addition material of the new panel section just lies inside the original bag. An easy solution that means no modification to the original sail bag. An Elegant solution

I struggle to get my main into the boom bag when I drop the main / the luff is over the dodger etc and thus it’s hard to grab the zip and start closing the bag - midships is ok but then the luff is a problem The main doesn’t flake flat enough to easily fit in the bag and it’s a struggle doing the zip up as it is now too high up fir me to easily manage It seems possible only to do once I’m anchored or on the marina Is it just that I’m vertically challenged or is there a way to make this easy?? I thought I’d get better with practice but this hasn’t eventuated!!!!

The strength of a forum like this is that it allows ideas of all sorts to be expressed - ideas to be "floated", things for newbies and things for experts. There is a broad base of experience and expertise. If there is an idea expressed that may have dangers for some within it then one would hope that within the membership someone would pick up and highlight the dangers. I would be unhappy with any editing but equally unhappy if there were signs of membership complacency such that ideas were not challenged on all sorts of grounds, including warning the "less able" about difficulties that might exist in implementing any idea posted. Vaskos wide ranging and obviously expert ideas, and his floating of many fascinating concepts are not a problem, nor is it a problem that some have raised concerns about aspects of them that may be seen as problematic by other members. Suppressing ideas would decrease the value of the forum

The gas connections inside my gas lockers of my so379 seems "standard" Australian - on the transom is a BBQ gas connector but the gas line doesn't seem to screw into this - is it a metric or other sized fitting?? Has anyone the same issue

A real alternative to manoeuvring ones yacht to rescue MOB , just heave to and take control of the float! Perhaps there's too much to go wrong by making the solution high tech - or will the next iteration be a self steering rescue device that just needs to be launched?

I've decided against retrofitting the original Jeanneau part and am still trying to decide between the Seldon and the trogear that hoppy pointed to ~ I think that the seldon seems 'better' in terms of removability when not wanted but the trogear obviates mucking up the anchor locker and pulls up out of the way reasonably well. I like the lack of intrusion of the trogear into the foredeck space in general. However the trogear is not cheap at $AUD2900 plus fitting and with the cost I'm struggling to justify it for the extra utiiity that it will give compared to spending the same on either some other item of gear ( or perhaps an additional week of sailing rather than working!)

I also leave my teak au naturelle as I think it looks best that way ( and is less work) I feel better if the cracked mastic has only cosmetic relevance - my private worry was that water would get under the team and loosen it / Damage it As we don't get freeze ups here in Tasmania I would have thought that it was a lesser issue here than in colder climes It needs fixing for cosmetic reasons and I'm happy to cut the damaged old stuff out and resikaflex

When the mastic between the teak boards cracks / splits I presume that it is sensible to fix it to prevent water ingress? If so should one remove all the cracked mastic or merely put some new mastic into the cracks?

Has anyone tried splitting the chain locker lid into two so that it is accessible despite the bowsprit being in place? I know that many of the bowsprit options are removable but that doesn't equate to wanting to remove it every time before anchoring ( and feel happier being able to access the locker properly just in case while I'm anchoring)

Recharge time is a significant issue . I have a torqedo but the very slow battery recharge using my inverter or even mains on my marina means I need at least 2 batteries if I intend to discharge a battery in any one day-an overnight charge is not sufficient - this is a problem

I've been trying for some time to see how to get filtered water on my 379 as the swabbies are not happy with the taste of tank water. I've not found a filter that easily fits under the sink space, how well does the brita filter fit under the sink - does it significantly reduce the bin space or storage under the sink and are any special fittings needed to achieve this.

Thanks on y va I'm still very green in relation to handling my wee ship and am pleased about your comments re novaks videos I was sure that the jeanneaus would handle differently but not yet had ( and not really intending to ) try it out in storm conditions I would prefer tho to be prepared and informed Your images show the stay set up beautifully / would you do anything differently in hindsight
With the main it seemed to me with no rack knowledge that 40% was still a lot of sail so your advice seems both logical and is indeed valued
With a trysl the boom is "locked" mid ships but with a reefed main is not - how much of an issue is the "boom into the water" risk
