My almost 4 year old SO 409 refrigerator stopped working (cooling) recently. It had worked flawlessly for years and I kept it on probably half the time, on shore power. The unit still turns on and makes noise (hissing sounds in freezer) but the freezer does not get cold. I inspected the cooling fan intake and it was not clogged with dust. I find it hard to believe that I would need a recharge (of refrigerant) after only 4 years. I also noticed that the access to the recharge port is less than ideal. They should have but the unit somewhere more accessible.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for the link. Actually I think l saw at least part of this discussion before. Like I said, the unit seems to be very hard to access (behind a removable access panel under the sink) so I think I'll try to find a tech to service it. Not sure if there is a leak or not but I wouldn't know where to start.

Hi crashley, I'm with you. No way I could commit to that extent like Sailbleu. I am afraid I have less patience than that but I do admire the tenacity of our fellow forum members and the willingness to keep going "for fun" to learn more about the systems in the yacht. I just remembered this as an outstandingly long forum post and a story of ultimate triumph!! I would have to get an expert in to fix a problem like that. Regards, Trevor
