My guess is that you have invested 30-40K+ so far in improvements in Jessabee - time for you to get some serious sailing please...

Bruce almighty , sorry I can't share your opinion Xlnt. This type stills gives me the shivers.

EDIT !!
But hold on , you sail Scandinavian waters , rocky coasts right ? I know Norway. is like that . In that case , not bad word on a bruce , good for rocky seabed . And there its stops IMO.

Yes, in our waters it seems to be the best choice. Not failed once yet. We have a lot of thick mud/clay and rocky buttoms here in the south-east of Norway. It digs in really well and most of the time it sinks into the clay so that it dissappears totally. Unable to get it up until it is hoisted directly vertical.

Bruce style is one of the more popular here in Salish Sea. Works well.
Not sure I want to know what I have spent on my 85 Arcadia fixing her up since buying her. Probably 4 boat bucks per 1 I paid for her..

The bow sprit is fitted. When we tried to put the haul the Vulcan into the roller we encountered a problem Whilst the anchor fits, to mount the anchor on the 8mm g70 chain I had an oversized link and a certified shackle. The pin on the shackle is too wide to go through the roller cassette on the bowsprit I looked online and found at JimmyGreen.co.uk a swivel that will fit and looked like it may also be strong enough. I thought I was going to order it but then I discovered the same units in 2 of the 3 chandlerys here. Bought the size 10 as it can take 8mm-12mm chain kong.it/en/2-products/items/c2-sport/g11-yachting/p622-swivel-anchor-connector They recommend a d-shackle between the swivel and anchor, but that is my problem. I think the sideways strength should be sufficient. Not so happy with the solution but I am fed up with being stuck in the marina. Will post a photo of the end result once I get help removing the oversized link as I dont have a tool strong enough to hammer out a very small pin (will be side on to a concrete dock tomorrow which will help

A 42DS with standard double drop roller on the Stbd side and single wide roller on the Port. I have a 25Kg Rockna with 70m chain and 30 m rope. The Delta is kept as a backup plus a Fortress.
Couldn't be happier with it in Greece/Turkey. When it sets it really sets. It usually buries so you can just see the top of the roll bar.
But you better watch it on a reedy bottom. It will bounce and skate and when it bites in you better give it a good 2500-3000 revs to set it. And then turn on the anchor watch. But it doesn't happen often.
The other downside is that massive roll bar messes up the bowsprit options, even for a Seldon removable one. We got a North G2 gennaker and spent more time agonizing over the tack point than choosing the sail. Finally gave up and fly it via a pulley fixed between the rollers.

44DS, I replaced a Delta with a 65lb (30kg) Mantus. It barely fits. The next size up, the 85lb, I don't think will sit all the way in the roller judging by how much room I have from the tip of the 65 to the bow (about 2cm). The Mantus hooks like a beast.

We have a Rocna25 as our main with 300Ft Chain, Delta25 with 100Ft chain 200 rode as a backup and Fortress Danforth style (Aluminum) aft with 25FT chain & 200 rode. We did an 4Inch extension to the roller platform to eliminate the hull anchor damage described by other above. See the layout & pictures in the Hint & Tips section www.jeanneau-owners.com/hintsandtips/bowspritfurler.htmlHi there, we have a home made stainless steel 18K Bugel style with a keel. 43DS. Works very well. However , wondered if you have any problems with chain stacking up against the back wall? Have you heard of any modifications to help it to come back in nicely?

No, we have had no such problems with the original or the modified extension. Chain rolls in the bottom of the anchor well well with no pill up.

We have a delta 20kg anchor with 150' of chain and 200' of line. We have a fortress back up stern anchor and when I have enough money I will buy a spade anchor as a real back up anchor. Not sure exactly what I am going to do for the rode for the new anchor as I don't want too much weight up in the bow.

Hi folks, On my SO 40DS original 16 KG Bruce with 100 M of 10mm chain. 40 Lb. CQR 50 M 8mm chain and 50 M of nylon wrap for spare in back locker. Having no further experience with the new ones, I am quite happy with what I have. Up and down it goes with no problems. Big advantage is the Quick chain counter on board that allow a controlled up hulling and a precise chain length reading on the helm.

Alex , you sail a 40DS , that - most likely - means you have a Leroy Somer windlass. I had some problems , AGAIN , with my windlass , will ask Malcolm to put it on the H&T section as it is relevant for many . Next to the fact that this winch is of a poor and weak design , my electrical motor has huge difficulties raising my anchor ( diy rocna close to 30kg) and just 8mm chain. Yours is 10mm , which is a substantial increase of weight compaired to mine , are you aible to raise your anchor smoothly ? 00 meters of 10mm in a 40 feet , isn't the bow going down a bit ? Regards

On a slightly different note; how easy is it to drill a hole in an anchor to enable a pin to be put through?

On a slightly different note; how easy is it to drill a hole in an anchor to enable a pin to be put through? That entirely depends on the metal it's made of. Galvanised steel will be alot easier than S/S. When you put some oil on the drill whilst drilling it's done in no time. Regards

Manson Supreme 15kg on a 36i. No modifications and very happy eith it. On an earlier subject, why discount roller to surface distance in calculating scope? The relative density of chain to air is far higher than that of chain to water, so is therefore more effective at forming a catenary. Isn't it? I stand to be corrected.
