Hello all, As I get around to the little things that need replacing on our 2008 42DS, I note that the cockpit speakers are not the same size as those available from the local boating shop. They look like a factory installation job to me as they are very nicely installed and I would prefer to simply replace them with the same size speakers. They have waterproof covers over the back of the speakers so I am not keen to cut bigger holes for different speakers. Does any one know what speakers are used if factory fitted and are they available on line? Many thanks in anticipation. Trevor

According to Jeanneauparts.com they are "Speaker VDO D130 pair" ~36 Euro. However, it also says that radio is "RADIO CD PLAYER SONY" (which it isn't). I've never seen ones exactly like those on 42DS so would be interested if anyone does have a link. Furneauxriddall list several marine speakers but none look like the ones on my 42DS. www.furneauxriddall.com/acatalog/Speakers.html

From experience on our 39i-P, contact Jeanneau with the hull number and the should offer a replacement. Jeanneau America replacemented our covers with units that were more durable than the OEM.

Hello spellbound,
No, I haven't replaced them yet as the ones suggested are 10mm different in mounting hole centres compared to the ones I have. I would be interested to know from Spritz the URL to buy the VDO ones off the internet.
Regards,
Trevor

If it makes you feel better I'm having the same problem over here in Canada. Only option seems to be to replace the speakers with something new. $150-$200CDN. Bit of a disappointment..

Speakers on the DS are the same as for an i boat. The dutch dealer supplied me with the original speakers for 90 Euro or so. Misplaced the invoice so, no Jeanneau partnumber. They were send by the yard directly to me. All the stuff I sourced from conrad etc. did not fit.

Thanks Spritz,
Can you please let me know exactly which one you selected because the overall diameter is important but the distance between centres for the mounting holes is more important and so far I haven't been able to find speakers with 148mm distance between centres. I have tried to find the VDO specifications but I have not been able to find the distance between centres of the mounting holes.
Thanks for this,
Regards,
Trevor

Hello Xint
That certainly looks like the right one to me. It says it is a 130mm speaker but that is probably the speaker cone size. That is exactly the same type of speaker as installed on my boat. I have tried to use google translate to read how to order and I think you must be a professional outlet to purchase from this company.
Many thanks,
Trevor

I have replaced the covers three times. It seems anyone steering the boat likes to take a step backyard. Replacement is simple, but my suggestion is to go for metal face plates.

Hello Spritz,
I did try the right codes on EBAY but they do not reveal any products. Agree with Duet on the faceplates.

Hello Trevor,
I have the same problem with my SO 39 DS, and it looks like we have the exact same type installed by jeanneau. I cannot find suitable replacement speakers with a mounting screw diameter 148 mm. Any guidance is highly appreciated.
Thank you!

Magnus

Hi Magnus,
I gave up trying to find them and asked my local Jeanneau dealer for replacement speakers and they obtained them for me.
Job is now done. I couldn't believe how hard it was to find the right speakers.

For many years I worked in chandlery, and every week we had customers wanting EXACT replacements of factory fitted items. It's very hard, often these massive manufacturers use non-catalogue stock. You'll find the same applied to a lot of the fittings and fixtures too.
I always directed the customer back to the supplier, it's the only reliable way. Our boss was happy with this approach because it stopped us wasting our time, and stopped the customer loosing faith in us. When they can't get it, we happily sold them a new set of speakers, gell-coat kit and glass patch... gotta love the add-on sale.
Even if you replace your speakers with aftermarket products, you can guarantee the dimensions have changed when you come to replace them. The same applies to cars, fizz boats and other "boys toys", it's not and exclusive Jeanneau issue.
This forum should start a list of suppliers for parts sourced, in various countries obviously, according to boat type. There are a lot of threads like this, and it would be a valuable resource.

When my speakers were up for replacement I took the "easiest" approach and bought a pair of marine speakers that were approximately the right size. Luckilly the new speakers were slightly larger than the original, so I made the hole a little bigger and fitted them. Sourcing originals sounds like too much hard work and a new pair that was too small would be a mighty pain
