Trevor,
Just curious how the speakers came from the dealer and if you are pleased with the sound of the replacement speakers? Did they have metal grilles? How are they holding up? Can you post any pictures?
Thanks!

If you want the same model (slightly different front plate) VDO 051-018-011 is the same speaker, same connector, same hole size, same screws etc., several suppliers on E Bay such as boatpartsuk These are a direct swap for OEM on Jeanneau 42DS 2011

Hello Machsnail, The speakers had plastic grills just like the originals. Perfect fit and no mucking around. I am very happy with the sound but that is no great recommendation. My wife tells me I am deaf and as long as it sounds reasonable I am ok with that. I hadn't looked at them carefully and thought they were ok but just now as I take the photo I note they have small cracks in the plastic where the screws go through. May need new ones again soon.... here is a picture www.23hq.com/yachtbird/photo/44328264/originalRegards, Trevor

HinTrevor, there is another similar thread running about cockpit speakers you may find useful, I fitted some Fusion speakers with only very small hole enlargement needed

I’ve just order replacements for mine but I’m upgrading . Pretty simple if you carry a jigsaw I’m switching to 8 1/2 inch marine grade kicker speakers with LED rims. And I’ve stalled a four channel amp inside the cabin to power the two speakers in the back and the subwoofer in one of the lockers

Hi All, went though the same experience a few years ago with my 49DS. My solution (which has been great) was to abandon the search for OEM speakers (they weren't very good anyway), and use the problem as an opportunity to upgrade. There are some truly great marine speakers out there for reasonable money, and listening to your favorite tunes with decent fidelity and volume on the water was an easy justification to come up with a better solution: Go up a size (or two) in diamater 6.5 or 7.5 inch makes a big difference in the fullness of sound - cutting a bigger hole through the GRP is straightforward with a jigsaw (be sure to tape the gelcoat before cutting so it doesn't chip). when drilling screw holes be sure to tape then punch the gelcoat so the drill doesn't wander. I picked JL Audio M series 7.7 inch speakers (they have a very heavy construction, look great and sound superb (have been installed for 3 years and are flawless) and no appreciable UV damage to plastic covers. - they still look new. While your at it seriously consider a new head unit with NEMA integration so you can control tunes from your MFD - I found the Fusion 650 to be brilliant. Finally and this is very much Audiophile at sea - but next level in sound quality I added a subwoofer and dedicated amp - the only drawback was to be careful in the placement of the subwoofer so it didn't throw off bearings of the pulpit compasses. Cheers, Rob.

I'm on the verge of ordering the Fusion that someone recommended in another thread I can't find right now, but LED rims could be cool
