Hi everyone, just wanted to share with the group an easy way to solve the issue of taping you helm pump with hydraulic fluid.
I ran into the issue while filing the hydraulic system! I own the sport version, but believe it applies to all 895 and maybe more.
As you already know the bot is packed with systems and other features making use of every singe square inch.
The back of the helm does't call for exception. I actually things it's the worst part of the boat.
You have an incredible amount of cables and wires, that could be much better organized and labelled but that's another subject, that are absolutely jam packed in this area.
The fill cap for the helm pump is seating, as you would expect, on top of the cylinder. The only way to access this fil cap is from the helm by removing a (several) toggle switch to free up the access to the fil cap (and when I say free up and highly battering the word free up).
I absolutely lost my cool trying to fil the pump, and I will refrain from repeating all the words I have used to describe the engineering of this specific feature.
Tired of spending hours accessing the fil cap, and making an oil mess on the way I put together a simple and very effective system that relocate the fil cap to the top of the dashboard.
I use a 1/4 inch NPT male / female connector at each end of the extension and drilled the dashboard to install the female part. This allows you to screw in any commercially available fill tube to tap your helm pump.
I make sure that I leave the filling hose about half empty to provide some room for the fluid to fluctuate (the constructer recommend to leave about 1/6" headroom in the pump while filling. Half the hose does the trick.

WARNING: to install the 1/4 NPT elbow you will have to remove the helm pump from its cradle, make sure not to lose the small key stock on the helm shaft as you remove the pump. You will be spinning the shaft on empty if you do.
