Has anyone translated the owner’s manual wire diagram to English? I am trying to figure out what this box is under the companionway is… With the help of google translate I have been able to tell it has to do with the rear cabin lights, but why is it there to begin with? I also have circuit tags on wires that I can't find listed in the diagrams anywhere...

I have exactly the same and often wondered what on earth it is. Could it have something to do with the switching relay for the windlass? If it is then this would explain why you cannot find it on the wiring diagram since i think the electric windlass was an option. It should in fact have a battery up in the bow or use the bow-thruster batteries (if you have them) but it does not and i think relies on the starter battery.
Just a guess. I look forward to hear if anyone has the answer. Andrew

The wire gauge is too small for the windlass and from what I can tell on the wire tags they are all for the aft cabin lights…

I believe that you are looking at a switch that allows you to turn off/on both of the overhead lights at the same time, or individually. On my boat there are two light switches for the overhead lights in the aft cabin - 1 on each side, and each of them controls the light on its side. There is a switch inside that box, and if I swith it, then both of the light switches in the aft cabin control BOTH of the lights. I think this is to allow separate control if the divider is in place, creating two aft cabins.

I've got exactly the same mystery box in the engine room of my 2005 DS43. I started to chase the wires when I bought the boat and gave up pretty quickly. Contacted the original owner and she didn't know either. I think I assumed it had something to do with the original alternator controller, which had been replaced with a Balmar controller at a later date. But I like the guess that it may have something to do with the lights in the aft stateroom; I sort of wondered how they wired things so that the overhead switches on either side could control the lighting. The box definitely contains just a few relays, fairly low current type. I might just pull off a couple of wires and see if it affects the lighting. The label on mine reads:
Scheiber Ref 3616270.01 Commande va et vient CAB AR SU43 Lot 811817.

RXC, maybe you have tracked it down and it makes a lot of sense but i do not see where the switch is that you mention.
If some of the other 43ds owners do not have this box then perhaps it is because they have a permanently open full width aft cabin with no dividers. On my boat i sometimes use the cabin full width and sometimes with the dividers so if your theory is correct that explains why i have this box on my 2004 boat. A useful gadget if you are right. But where is the switch? Andrew

I just tested it yesterday. That little black bit in your photo is a switch. Push it one direction and you should hear a click. Push it the other way and you should hear a click. It is changing the position of a set of contacts in the other relays to enable control of the lights in the aft cabin, all together from the two switches, or individually. For the 43DS that has a divider in place and two aft cabins, you want individual control. When it is just one big cabin, you might want to turn all the lights on or off.

I concur; I tried out mine out the other day and exactly the same thing happens - it controls the operation of the aft cabin light switches. My 43DS has the full-width aft cabin layout. I've now labeled the mystery box...for the next guy
