The shower drain sporadically is filling up with water. I cannot figure what is causing the issue, any thoughts?

Hi Jim, a little more information might help. Do you mean the shower base fills when you are showering, or is it accumulating water when you are not showering? Any other symptoms you have noticed?

Water can come from several sources, it can drain out of the outlet pipe, or it can be overflow from the basin. If you are sailing with the basin drain seacock open seawater can enter the boat when heeled and spill into the shower base.

Sitara or anyone else, can you further describe how water can drain out of the outlet pipe or water can overflow from the basin. How do I determine those causes?

Hi Jim, Determine the source of the water. Fresh or salt, assuming you sail in the sea and not fresh water. If salt it comes from the sink (at least in my boat) as the sink outlet can be below the water line when the boat heels. Always sail with the sink drain seacock closed. Seawater may also leak past the pump valves for the shower drain when the boat is heeled. Again sail with the seacock to the shower drain closed. It may also leak from the toilet piping/pump.
If fresh water it could be rainwater leaking from the deck or backflow water out of the shower drain, caused by the inability of the shower pump to clear every last drop, this may be compounded by leaking valves in the pump which could allow backflow.
Hope this helps, Rob
