Whilst I normally take care to wash the boat with fresh if we have been taking a lot of salt spray, on our 39i which is fitted with Selden spars the reefing tack rollers had both seized solid - I think alloy and stainless caused some electrolysis - I have now freed one entirely and the other is just turning,
The moral is check you boom fittings regularly and wash and lubricate on a very regular basis

My in boom reefing is very stiff, what do you use to lubricate. Can I use the same lube on the runners and sail guides

I like Harken McLube (I don't like the price), but it does the job and does not stain
You may also need some PTFE grease, for bearings etc

If you have single line reefing, it also pays to check the sewn in reefing rollers on the actual sail as mine were solid.

Also check how the centre bolt on the sail roller is fixed. Mine dropped out in my hand when removing sails on our SO39i - glad I was not needing a reef at the time will try to fit a nylock nut next season
