Survey completed. There were several small items along the lines of the bilge pump being off/auto, no manual on, some thruhulls/seacocks, bottom paint, etc. there were a few items were negotiating over….
1. Yanmar 1000 hour service. The heat exchanger has been cleaned/flushed, but valves, mixing elbow, and injectors have been overlooked. Any ballpark on what those should cost? Not really worried about the elbow; it needs to be replaced but that’s an easy fix
2. Both holding tanks are bad. Has anyone had any luck sourcing drop in replacements?
Thanks

Thanks Is the engine not running well? What makes you say the injectors were "neglected"? Unless there is a problem with the engine it is not much of a bargaining chip. What do you mean the holding tanks are "bad"? Are they leaking? If they are just smelly they can be cleaned up. If that is the worst the survey revealed I don't think you have much to justify trying to renegotiate the agreed upon price.

It blows white smoke at startup, but I “think” that went away once it was up to temp. Both holding tanks have leaked; aft was glassed over so the leak is now between the glass and the tank wall. The forward one leaked out as fast as water went in.

Does anyone have ready access to the holding tank areas that could share dimensions of the factory tanks and/or what would fit?

I suggest you reach out to Jeanneau directly, they should be able to give you a price to negotiate with at least.

Someone on this board did a replacement, and had custom tanks made. I don't have any leaks, yet, but would have new plastic tanks made. It will also allow you to install level gages on the sides of the tanks.

My SO 35 was commissioned in 2005 with a 10 gallon waste holding tank. It was obviously not designed for a boat kept on the Great Lakes, where you must pump out at a waste collection facility. Manufactured in France, I suspect it was intended for the Med, where 10 gallons would be adequate for a short stay before heading offshore, where you could dump the tank.
I had a 25 gallon tank fabricated locally in stainless steel. The cost of purchasing a tank from Jeanneau and having it shipped from France to the US was about the same as having it made locally and having it installed. Not to mention the fact that it took far less time to get the job done.
I have since heard stories about stainless holding tanks leaking, and I'm not sure I would have it done this way, and might well opt for a plastic tank.

The stainless tanks rust on the welds. A repair would only be temporary. And work in that area is not my hobby…. I had 2 tanks made in 8mm PE in 2019. Both tanks are identical. In total that cost me € 785. Fit perfectly, no worries about rust or leaks. The plastic tanks do need support, since they’re hanging. But that’s no problem because there is a rib just underneath. Didn’t fit level gages, like to keep things simpel. On a boat, if it can break, it will break….. Very happy with it. If someone is interested I still have the technical drawings.
