And after I got rid of it, they wanted us to get Jeanneau 60, huh? SHAME ON THEM Haha! What did you switch to? Dufour, will see if we get better luck this time around. These dinghy davits issue was the last thing that pissed us off. If something outside of the boat isn’t built watertight it should be disclosed to buyers. And they don’t do it.

Yup that’s pretty shabby.
Which Dufour did you get? And new or near-new?

Keep us posted - be v interesting to hear your comparative experience.
Do you still have a boat (Jeanneau) or just like popping back to the Jeanneau forum from time-to-time (it’s not a bad spot)?! 😊

Greetings,
while I have no direct experience with the J51 I would still like to chime in and share a few thought's with you about the "quality" of the Jeanneau (and other) boats.
My background, I've owned a 2006 SO 49 for ten years. Bought it used when it was five years old. A few months back, I've sold the 49 and bought a 2015 JY 57. Owning the SO 49 has been a pure pleasure. During the time I've owned and maintained the boat there have been virtually zero failures. The execution of the build was (almost) flawless. Most everything was easy to get to, inspect, and eventually repair or replace. Everything was / is watertight without any intervention from my part. I have no exact records but let's say that in the ten years I've replaced broken stuff for maybe 5K euro bucks. In my book, that's nothing! Stuff breaks, that's perfectly normal...
Now, switch over to the J57. Build ten years later than the SO49 they (Jeanneau) will do things even better, right? WRONG! The "execution" of the systems on board is simply put horrible if compared to the SO. Wires, hoses, pipes and whatnot bundled into a single mess held together with zip ties. Most of the zip ties had not been even cut the tails off! 220V mixed with 12V - 24V wires running along with water hoses and those with several leaks... Leaks caused by under -tightened hose clamps. I've spent something like 50 hours chasing down leaks in the whole boat. Several clamps required 4 to 5 full turns to get rid of the leaks. Parts of the (obviously) complex electrical system have been installed in places... I'm scratching my head! Who the heck did come up with such an stupid idea? Virtually unreachable without taking a LOT of stuff apart / or out! My "to do" list is still long, I'll get it all sorted out but heck if they did just a little better job at the factory I probably wouldn't be the third owner of this boat in six years.
A mess, and that's being kind!
Fortunately, I'm the kind of guy able to do / fix most everything on my own. I believe that if I had to hire the "professionals" to sort out all the problems on this boat, I'd be broke and still not fixed. I would've expected at least the quality of the craftsmanship of the SO 49 but...
Now let's look at the flip side of the coin. ALL installed systems and materials are top notch quality! The "fundamentals" are all right. Only, the execution of putting them together is very questionable. As IS with all other MFR's. At least, those that I've seen thus far. Some are a somewhat better but NONE of them is perfect.
I'm only guessing but I think that getting everything sorted out will not require too much money but only time. My time is free and I enjoy working on my boat... I was expecting from the very beginning that I needed to sort out stuff, it's just a whole bit more that what I thought.
This brings me to the next point. "I've spend a serious amount of hard earned money and I expect everything to be perfect." "Whatever is not perfect "THEY" have to fix it!"
With these lines of thinking, better stay away from boating! No boat at any point in time will ever be "perfect"! Waiting for "THEM" to fix the boat will just ruin the pleasure in owning the boat. As an example, if I find a leak anywhere, I will first fix the leak and then complain. Fix the leak before the wood will suffer damage... NOT wait for someone to fix the leak when they have time and please to do so and in the mean while the woodwork becomes a mess.
My personal take on boating.

Does anyone senior from Jeanneau ever read or see this feedback?
I thought they pride themselves on customer collaboration but it sounds like that is focused more on the up-front design and ensuring they win the ‘arms race’ of cool new features that will win ooohs & ahhhs at boat shows and possibly the next ‘boat of the year’ award.
But maybe they should start listening a bit harder to the less comfortable customer feedback around quality control & execution rather than design?
And understand that they are losing money right now from people switching brands on new boat purchases.
I’m already made it clear that I would (currently) not contemplate buying a new Jeanneau for the reasons stated here. But the boats being bought new today are the boats I might buy in 5yrs time. Hence my concern that if build quality continues to trend down then our current Jeanneau might be our last... ☹️

It took me two years of writing to Jeanneau about those leaking davits. And finally head of Jeanneau America guy named Gilles responded to the dealer that this davits are not supposed to be waterproof. Can you imagine having something not waterproof on the boat !!!! It’s a joke. But be honest with yourself, why would they give a flying f*ck if product sells? As long as we keep on buying this crap they will sell it to us. And make it even less quality, why? Because it increases their profits. It’s capitalism fellows. Supply and demand. Once market turns around they might think about improving their product. But for now, why bother. There are always be suckers who will pay top dollar for sh*t. Shame on them.
