Hi all I am seeking information on how often bow thruster brushes should last before needing to be replaced.
I have a 2015 44DS with a Quick Bow Thruster (in Melbourne Australia). There is carbon dust all around the cavity where the bow thruster sits. The boat is used a lot - I would guess docked twice a week on average, not always using the bow thruster.
Quick has advised (via local agent) that the bow thruster needs to be removed to access the brushes and check their wear. They advise new brushes are approx 22mm long and should be replace when they are down to 5 to 10mm. They have priced a new set of brushes as AUD960 (included 10% VAT) . This is approx USD744). I kid you not.
My preference is to replace the brushes before the bow thruster decides to not work (at a critical time no doubt). But the idea of removing the bow thruster to check is not a quick and easy task.
Can anyone advise if you have experienced a bow thruster that has failed from brushes wear, or advice on brushes longevity, or any guidance that can assist.
thank you in anticipation
