Hello, I'm currently searching to purchase a SO 439 or 469 in the Great Lakes area for a cruise the summer of 22. I'm grateful to have a sabbatical next summer so I'm starting the search for our cruising boat. If anyone has any leads or is thinking of putting your boat on the market in the area I would have serious interest. Would prefer traditional main over in mast furling.
All the best. Bill.

I hope you find a boat for your cruise. I’ve been enjoying my 469 for a number of 4-5 month trips. I wouldn’t avoid an in mast main if that’s what you find. A sail in good shape and properly furled isn’t a problem. With the standard height mast the boat is still plenty powered. And when the wind unexpectedly goes from 25 to 35 it’s really nice to be able to stay in the cockpit and just roll up whatever you need to.

I agree there will be tradeoffs on a purchase like this and would certainly consider in mast as the convenience is hard to beat. I just prefer traditional stack pack for a much better sail shape.

In either case I would plan on a new main if you want good sail shape and the boat has the factory sail. I was very happy with improvement in shape and performance when I upgraded to a well made Hydranet triradial main. Keep it in mind as you shop. Budget for a new main if it has the original.
