I have a Yamaha F150 on my 695. I currently have factory fitted anodes which I assume are zinc. Now boat is in a marina on a freshwater lake. Rather than hauling boat to change anodes was thinking of hanging a magnesium anode but where to connect it? Suggestions welcome! Thanks Ian

A hanging anode can prolong the life of existing fixed anodes , but, the fixed anodes generally will get eaten first because they are closer to the item being protected which is connected to the boats electrical ground. I guess with outboards it may be a better situation than a sail boat as you could dangle it more or less over the prop, it will have to be connected to the boats electrical ground to work at all, ...... it's something I have considered, but not sure the benefit is worth doing it, perhaps someone with experience will come along soon.
Having a boat will require occasional haul outs, a cheaper anode change can be done by a diver , check your local dive club, they like a reason to dive rather than just for recreation (but most draw the line at scrubbing the hull ) and might swap a few anodes for a couple of cases of beer !
Fresh water anodes are usually magnesium or aluminium, zinc is better for saltwater, zinc does still work in fresh, offering some protection ..... just not as well.
