A discussion on another thread got me curious about what mast manufacturers Jeanneau chooses to equip their yachts. Do they change from generation to generation, or specific models?
Most of the Jeanneaus I looked at when I was shopping had Selden masts, yet other owners did not even know Jeanneaus came with Selden.
I am curious whether different masts are found on the same model boats, or whether each model has a specific mast.
So what mast does YOUR boat have? Model? Year? Classic or Furling?
Our 2011 39i has a Selden mast with a classic main.

My 2008 39i has a Selden mast with car track main. This brings up a question: Since the main (fully battened) stacks with these large cars, the head is really high and I have to stand on my tippy toes to reach it to attach the halyard. Would anyone here recommend putting a mast climbing step a couple of feet up from the bottom? This would require riveting through and I'm concerned about structural integrity and interference with the lines that pass inside the mast.

There is no concern about structural compromise. The main load on that part of the mast is compression.

I had my rigger fit this one www.baselinemarine.com/mw/mastwalker.html which is small and doesn't get in the way, only downside is that it is painful to stand on with bare feet. To answer the question too. 2008 39i with classic mast made by Seldén. Quite a lot of earlier Jeanneau's had Z-Spar as detailed here: www.jeanneau-owners.com/Manuals/zsparprofiles.html

My SO30i which was built in 2009, it has a Selden Mast and classic main. No need for steps to reach the head board on the smaller boat.
I replaced the sails after a few years and included the Selden bat cars for the batten ends, which have worked really well.

2010 SO39ip, Selden loose foot etc. "classic."
Selden: call w/serial number, get exact parts needed. No hassles. Hats doffed to Selden record-keeping, service after sale.
(just replaced a fractured t-fitting on upper portion of outer shroud and obtaining parts with compact-strand rope already swaged etc. was the easiest phase of repair, a rarity and a blessing given the local schedule)

There’s no obvious pattern here - boats of all eras seem to have Selden, Sparcraft and Z-Spars.

There’s no obvious pattern here - boats of all eras seem to have Selden, Sparcraft and Z-Spars. So far the only pattern is specific models. All of the "i" generation seem to be Selden. I wonder if they put the rigs for each production run out to tender, or whether different rig manufacturers work with the designers on particular models.

The riggers I talk to think Selden generally regarded as superior to Sparcraft which might explain why used with the “i” models.

The riggers I talk to think Selden generally regarded as superior to Sparcraft which might explain why used with the “i” models. My rigger said the same thing. Selden certainly makes very nice masts. I am guessing SparCraft just sharpened their pencils and won the contract back for the next generation.
