Do any of our European members have any suggestions for a supplier of a whisker/spinnaker pole for a 43DS in France? I made the trip across the Atlantic without one, and the experience has led me to think I would now like to have one. Unfortunately I don't have any idea about where to buy them here. We are in the Bordeaux area. I may also buy a cruising spinnaker to go along, so any recommendations for a sailmaker for such would be appreciated.

West marine can ship you one, as can other US equals if you can not find one in France. I would think if you are in a bigger marina, their "should" be a supply house equal near by.
Sail lofts anywhere can make you a sail and ship it too, ie for the spinnaker.

I am a couple of days north of you in Crouesty. For the whisker pole I suggest Greement Systems who are very good - Manfred speaks english -call +33 (0) 297539502 . I bought my cruising spinnaker from the North Sails loft in Vannes (right next to Le Crouesty) -Philippe Oulhen there speaks English- +33(0) 297409090b- or "philippe@fr.northsails.com". Hope this helps.

Spud,
Thanks much for your help. I have been looking thru a lot of french websites for spinnaker poles, but nothing seems to be available in the size that I need, so I will try Greement Systems next. Also thanks for the North Sails recommendaiton - I have bought sails from them in the US and have had good experience with them.

Marty,
Thanks for your info. My marina does have a chandlery on-site, but they do not carry rigging hardware for larger boats. The French marine stores are generally quite small. I think it will take us some time to figure out where to buy some things, and I may even go to Jeanneau to see what they recommend about things like this - we have a Jeanneau dealer on-site. I will go to WM only as a last resport because I anticipate that shipping a pole will be quite expensive.

Ralph,
Will the local store order you a pole? I would think while they do not carry what you want, they should have the ability to order. I know my local WM is one of the smaller sqft stores, but if it is in there catalog, they can usually have it in a week or so. 2-3 weeks if NOT in there catalog, but in a manufacture catalog. Then when I was at a different marina near me, the chandlery there would do the same that was not affiliated with any one.
Be carefull of the dealer, as you may end up paying more! Many times they pay the same as WM will pay, or a bit more due to lack of sales, then mark up for them to make a profit, then dealer marks up, and a pole shipped from WM would have been cheaper. Not always, but just keep this in mind!
ANyway, now that I have my new boom ordered, need to head to work!
