Hi, hoping my intro post worked in accordance with the rules
We’re a young family searching for a Sun Odyssey 29.2 in the U.K. or Northern France. Ideally we would like a wheel and lift keel as an upgrade to our trailer sailer now we have been allocated a south coast mooring.
We have patience but funds ready if anyone is thinking of selling within 6 months -
Thank you
Will

Hi Tirconnel,
Welcome to the forum. You will find lots of good information and friendly like minded sailors here.
We also moved up from trailer sailors, after over thirty years, and our SO30i is an amazing leap. The 24 ft one we had for the preceding 20 years was small for the length, and the definition of tippy, but sailed wonderfully. We have really enjoyed the move to more sedate, but very comfortable sailing. We are finding the SO30i a great size for two or for a small family, especially in coastal waters or as in our case, on a lake, and I am sure you will enjoy the 29 as we have enjoyed the 30. We also have the lift keel version as we sail on a shallow estuarine lake system. We have had it ten years now and hoping for many more to come.
Wishing you every success in your search. And looking forward to following your adventures into larger boats.

Hi Will,
If you are planning to keep your new boat in the UK you should bear in mind that if you buy in the EU you will lose VAT paid status if it is not in the UK prior to 31st Dec., this year; and may well have to pay VAT again even it it has been paid already.
If you plan to keep your boat in EU waters then the reverse may apply. ie buying in Britain and moving to the EU after 31st Dec., could attract VAT after 18 months.
It's all to do with that dreaded B word and whilst the detail is currently being argued over by the RYA and CA, HMRC are not giving much away at the moment. They do however promise to clarify the situation within the next few days or so.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks both- grateful for the experienced view and support.
The VAT situation is a pain, plus potential duty - it’s affecting us as we import around 40 Landrovers from Europe per year so hoping for a less aggressive stance after talks but it’s all getting less and less likely .
