I'd like to change out the original manufacturer's primary fuel filter with a Racor spin-on type. Racor sells their filters by fuel flow and micron filtering ratings. Does anyone know what primary filter fuel flow and micron rating for the Yanmar 3GM30 are? Thanks-

I did make the change to the Racor last spring. I added a 2 micron filter although at a boat show a Yanmar representative suggest going as high as the 20 micron. Normally I would have followed his advice. However, an engineer friend, who has helped me over the years with a variety of boat problems, said that he had installed a 2 micron filter on his engine and had been happy with the result. I suspect that the downside is that if you get poor fuel the 2 micron will fill up with dirt very quickly. I sail a SO37 (03) and cannot complain about the first season's use of this filter. By the way I had no trouble with the relatively tiny factory filter. The ability to clean it on board was a plus. I guess the size of the unit led me to make the change. Needless to say, the original is in the spare's box.
