Can anyone tell me if there should be a large hull anode on a 36i please? Mine only has a shaft anode and an anode behind the prop. Im new to yacht ownership - but in all my years with motorboats, every one of them has had a huge hull anode as well. Many thanks

Hi Peter,
I agree because I used to have a motor boat and it used to have a large anode on the transom, wired back to the main earth of the boat. Also, all mettle fittings were bonded with earth wire. We now have a 36i and I do not know of any anode apart from the one on the shaft. I didn't know the prop had one as well.
After one year the boat was hauled out for antifouling and I asked if the anodes or any metal work had any signs of pitting. I was concerned because for one year it had been plugged into the mains at the marina and I was concerned about electrolysis from the common earth connection at the dock. I do not have an earth blocker fitted. I was told that no pitting was observed anywhere (including the anode) so I guess all is OK.
So mine has the same protection as yours but I must confess to having asked myself the same question.
Happy sailing
Trevor

Thank you Trevor. Since then I have spoken to an owner of an SO 37 - which is very similar. Interestingly he does have a large hull anode fitted as well as shaft and prop anodes. However he told me that the hull anode had worn only a tiny amount in the last 3 years! So I presume Jeanneau decided that it wasnt necessary and saved a few manufacturing pennies. Anyway to make myself feel a little happier I fitted 2 shaft anodes to it today!

I also have shaft anode +prop anode abnd this seems to be working ok. I was also worried about this but other 36i owners say it is enough. If anyone knows otherwise I would be delighted to know. nac.

Just for info. My SO36i has just been lifted. After 18 months as we dont get much fouling here in Portugal where I am berthed and to be honest the hull was absolutely fine.
Of the 2 shaft anodes I fitted one of the shaft anodes had gone - the other was about 20% used.
