Hi, I am a new member and we just ordered a SO 440 for a 2021 delivery. We will be sailing in the upper Great Lakes and are really looking forward to our upcoming time on the water. I am enjoying reading through the threads to start to gain understanding of some of the Jeanneau nuances and solutions. Thank you for your efforts to maintain this forum. Ben

Ben Benjamb, Very exciting about your SO440 We took delivery this year of our 389 and enjoyed sailing on Lake St Clair. Not sure where you mean by upper Great Lakes. Superior or just northern Huron and Michigan?

I am curious if anyone has been provided polars for their 2020 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 389 (or prior years). Deep keel :-) And which sail configuration is underlying those performance polars. In-furling vs. fully battened. I hesitate to contact Jeanneau America directly as they say on the website to contact the dealership first. Dealership so far could not help. Fair winds,- Soren

Fair winds,- Soren Hi Soren, For us, performance was not the goal. We wanted convenience. We bought in mast furling which makes a very enjoyable sail. We also bought the shoal keel since the lake we sail on (Lake St Clair) can get some shallow spots. The code 0 is a great addition and we have enjoyed it for lighter winds (up to maybe 10-12 knots). Folding prop helps too. We are very happy with our choices. The boat is very fast vs our Beneteau 321.

Yes, the shoal keel does not point into the wind as well as the deep keel. If you are racing, choose what you like. We don't race and love the conveniences of shoal keel and in mast furling
