Hi all,
When we bought our 2002 SO43DS it had 2 aircon units and a genset (Fischer Panda 5 Kw water cooled generator showing 1883.8 hours, accuracy is unknown). The genset would turn over but never start. Looking at the survey when the previous owners bought it back in 2016, it was very slow to start then. The previous owners said it never started and they never used it.
So, we have removed the 2 aircon units (1 was a rusted mess and never worked as far as we know) and also removed the very heavy genset. The intention (and the 'word' from the Marine mechanic) was that it would be a relatively easy thing to get it working again. The mechanic removed it, took head off, diagnosed a rusted and 'buggered' injector and couldn't get it out - to be precise, we asked them to stop as they kept demanding more money to do stuff without ever finishing or scheduling much of what was asked, all the time costing hardstand fees. Eventually with a couple of major jobs done, we cut our losses and got it back in the water vowing never to use them again (which we haven't).
Getting to the point - we now have a very heavy, non functioning Fisher Panda genset in the garage wondering if it is worth anything? In NZ here we have an ebay-like site called TradeMe and I could put it on there but am unsure what value to put on it. It is unlikely we will ever get it going again but I don't want it to go for peanuts if there is real value in it.
Any thoughts?

We had this same genset on our 49DS. After a few years of ownership (we were the second owner), the genset would turn over, but not start. We found that the valves were out of adjustment, so after setting the valves to the proper adjustment, the generator would run once or twice before needed to be adjusted again. I brought in a mechanic that specialized in Fischer Panda. Turned out this model was a piece of junk. The saltwater cooling corroded away the valves to the point that there was no way to adjust them anymore. Bottom line was I could spend a lot of money repairing the genset and have it maybe it would last a few years or use the money and get a new unit. We got a new unit, a Northern Lights.
