We are in the planing stage of what we hope to be a circumnavagation, leaving from the Uk in 21/22 (depending on current issues)
We had planed to go through the Panama canal, (life long dream ) but given the cost increase we have been looking at other options, one is to head north after the Carribean season, and look to have the boat shipped accross the USA/Canada to Seattle, or BC.
has anyone done this? any info would be usefull?
Many thanks
Yacht is a 42DS.

Bluemist, We looked at shipping a 36i from Cleveland, Ohio to Seattle, Washington and were given a price in excess of $18,000 US about 4 years ago, which was more than twice what we anticipated. We previously had a Tartan 33 shipped 510 miles, New Jersey to Ohio, for around $2000. Based on that experience and an earlier one, we expected 2500 miles to be around $10k and were shocked at the $18k. We figured we could do a lot of chartering for $18k, and explore a good bit of the Pacific Northwest. There is a website, uship.com, where you can submit for bids by providing dimensions and locations. All that considered, there is plenty to see on the US coast from South Carolina to Maine, and you could consider going up the Hudson River from New York and into the Great Lakes. But I'll bet that once you see the number, the Panama Canal is not going to seem so expensive. Don't forget, the Northwest Passage has been open each summer for the last 7 years or so. www.yachtingworld.com/practical-cruising/through-the-panama-canal-everything-you-need-to-know-119045Geoff

Just shipped my 45.2 from Florida to Michigan last month $9,300. Boat Logistics.inc, Muskegon ,MI have used them twice now and both went without issues. They haul for Beneteau out of South Carolina on a regular basis. Couldn't be happier with the service.

Web,
Very crudely, that's just over $6.00/mile though the fee would break down among loading/unloading, road time, oversize load permits/fees, tolls, insurance, maybe a fuel surcharge, etc. Did you have to pay anything for an empty trip down?
