hey, all I have an issue with power on my 77 38' gin fizz sloop. It has a double bladed prop,( prob the original), and the motor is a 30 HP Renault diesel. This boat is slow in the water, I think a prop upgrade would help, but how would I know which size, pitch ect ?anybody......Thanks, Red

Red,
While I will not say it is a prop issue, if the motor is original, have to cleaned the injectors in the mean time, checked the timing, main injection pump etc of the motor? While diesels in general are pretty maintenance free, they do at some point in time require the above things to be checked and repaired. You could very well be down in power if these items are clogged and dirty. A prop change in reality will do nothing for you, other than make you feel good for going to a folding/feathering prop!
if it is a prop issue, the local prop guy will know what to put on the boat, based on HP at what rpms, trans ratio, disp of the boat, and hull speed. I know there is a formula, but that is beyond what I need to think........ouch......not to self, do not think, pulls brain muscles...........about, so I let the experts figure that out for me, I would suggest you do the same.

The engine is original, yet it runs strong, over the years I have been thru different scenarios say a dirty gas filter where the engine is starved and underpowered, or a dirty injector, I can tell the difference. I generally run the engine around 18 hundred to 2000 Rpm. I know the boat is beamy and heavy, this is one of the things I like about it.
