Dear Jeanneau Community,
As we continue to sail through turbulent and uncharted waters, I’d like to take just a moment to update you on where we stand both here in North America as well as abroad.
As I’m sure you know, since 1996 Jeanneau has been part of Groupe Beneteau. Together, we employ upwards of 8,200 people, the majority of who are directly involved in the physical boat-building process. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Groupe Beneteau has temporarily shut down its production activities in France and Italy on March 18, before extending these measures to include the United States and Slovenia last week. This measure will also be applied for Poland within the next few days. This has effectively sidelined our hard working men and woman who together, provide us with the great boats that we have come to expect and which gives us such joy on the water.
For customers wanting to connect with our Jeanneau Sailboat & Powerboat dealers, most are open or scheduling one-on-one appointments, as individual state regulations allow. Visit their websites and social media sites to find out the status of operations for your local dealership, and to stay in touch with the latest happenings with Jeanneau.
Just three weeks ago, as part of the 2020 BVI Owners' Rendezvous, I had the pleasure of spending a week aboard a newly-delivered Sun Odyssey 410 with my wife Danielle and our two daughters Sabine and Elodie. It’s not often that I get the chance to do something like this and the fact that I got to sail in such an idyllic place as the British Virgin Islands surrounded by upwards of 60 of our owners and a number of my colleagues truly made the experience exceptionally memorable. While aboard, it occurred to me that there was a fair chance that I saw this very same 410 being built in our plant in Marion, SC during one of my visits. The same plant that today stands idle waiting for the danger to pass and production to resume. And while I’ll never know for sure if I saw that particular Sun Odyssey 410 on the line, I do know that I’ve seen plenty just like it come rolling out of Marion at the hands of the many skilled and dedicated men and woman who work there.
There’s no doubt that the coming weeks will remain challenging for all of us. But the optimist in me keeps my attention focused on the future and our human resilience to persevere and eventually overcome. I’m counting the days when my co-workers return to their jobs, the production lines are rolling again, and we all get back to enjoying life on the water.
Until then, I’m asking all who read this to comment below or message us one of your favorite pictures of life aboard your Jeanneau along with a short caption so we can in turn share it with the rest of the Jeanneau community.
I appreciate your help with this and wish you all the very best! Stay safe, stay well, and stay in touch with family and friends. I will do the same. The future is bright!
Very sincerely,
Nick Harvey
