I certainly had no intention of insulting lithium battery banks or those that choose them. My intention was to present my gut feelings after a few years of experience including 6 month trips without shore power. I do believe that on a number of fronts lithium offers advantages. Especially in providing voltage during discharge cycles. I went to the fireflies during my first year of boat ownership ever, and at that time I believed that the changes that were required. (At that time also) were more than I wanted to take on. Since I went with what I might call “My 80% solution” I thought that describing my results would be useful info to add to this thread on Firefly batteries. And this is really only useful if looked at through my style of use. The internet being what it is, it takes a good number of inputs to accumulate good information. Some say that they chose an easy drop in replacements Nd then describe a number of engineering changes beyond my understanding. Others won’t change a thing if it includes adding a regulator. My goal is to describe what I choose and why and then let you all know if it’s working for me. Then we can all go read about other systems and decide how we want to go. And as always… thanks to all on this group. I find the information great and even the disagreement between us are respectful and helpful.

Nobody said you insulted lithium batteries or those that choose them, heh I spend the last twenty five years with wet batteries and was very happy. Not wishing to repeat myself, but you said that you believed that lithium would not be a lot better than your current set up, I disagreed, it was that simple.
