Guys The picture underneath was taken whilst on passage from Lymington to Plymouth. The wind was ENE at 22-28 Knots and was from behind. The seas were at about 2-3 Metres. We covered the 157 miles in 18 hours...making an average of over 8 Knots. The boat was under full main and jib. Just proves it can be done. Happy sailing. Geoff.

Hi Geoff Sounds like you had a better sail than our trip down to Gran Canaria, we ran out of time due to adverse weather. Elvira D is in lagos until next week where incidentally we ran into a old sailing buddy of yours from Brightlingsea who is also doing the ARC .
Fair Winds

Geoff was doing better than I did yesterday, 5.5knots in 4.5 hrs! including one stretch were we got to a bouy in a race, in first dipite being the 2nd slowest boat! then the wind died, tide took over for awhile, wind came back, wind dies, backwards again, then finally the wind picked up but finished third an hour behind in actual and handicap time from two bigger boats grrrrrrrrrrr I;ve beaten one of the boat before too! bigger GRRRRRRRS
Oh well, still 8knots in a 36' monohull for that time period i pretty good!
