Sorry if this has been asked before, but in the Caribbean we often get heavy showers and the cockpit becomes unusable because of the gap between the Bimini and spray hood - the rain just flys in. Has anyone got a solution - know of a design available to make an awning to fill the gap - its a pretty compound shape and not really subsceptible to a simple strip of fabric.
We are in Trinidad at the moment and getting things made up is quite easy and cheap - its the design thats difficult.

I don't have the answer Horatio but I am just in the process of commissioning my 42i in Hong Kong and have the same issue. I am making some enquiries but in the meantime if you get a good design I would be pleased if you would let me know.
Cheers Bazz

Hi Horatiohb. I have an SO 40 with a spray hood and a bimini. when ordering the two I had a closure designed in see through flexplastic. Its brilliant, We zip it into position when needed and it forms a complete "seal" designed to fit the gap. When not required we unzip and store. It is worth its weight in Gold and gives us a complete seal over the hatchway and even in heavy driving rain the cockpit stays (relatively) dry. I don,t see why this could not be retro fitted, Just talk to your local canvas maker best wishes, Tomina

Rockstar - do you really use a Bimini in Ireland???!! Must have got a lot sunnier since I was there last. Seriously do you have a solution - it does depend on the wind of course as it blows the rain in through the gap. Tomina - was it just a case of asking a local canvas maker to come up with something? can you let us know a rough idea of how much he charged?

I had mine made in Turkey two year ago as part of a complete order of convass work, bimini spray hood, dodgers, boom cover etc. Out here it is relatively modest on cost, I would think two zips, the flexiplastic and sumbrella"Frame" would cost around £150 including labour. You would need to get the canvass maker on board to make a template and he would then take the bimini and spray hood back to his workshop, hope that helps , Tomina. P.S sorry for the delay in reply, away sailing at present.
