Mystery solved, water accumulating around keel bolts causing rust. The keel bolts are leaking, YIKES! My dealer is fixing the leak. I trust my dealer but need advice on the proper way this leak should be fixed.

I trust my dealer but need advice on the proper way this leak should be fixed. I would think that would be the fault of the commissioning agent. The boat would have shipped without the keel attached, and the keel would have been bolted on during commissioning. I would insist that the keel be pulled off and re-bedded since it clearly was not done correctly the first time. Of course I would expect the broker to cover all costs.

The majority of boats built in Marion are shipped with their keels installed. Don't jump on your dealer too quickly until you know how your boat was delivered. I'm assuming you are in north america.

I have never seen a boat that size arrive with the keel attached around here, because that would make the boat too tall for truck or rail transport in many areas. Regardless, the keel was not correctly installed or the bolts would not be leaking, and it would be the broker's responsibility to make it right, and simply sealing the bolts from the inside isn't going to change the fact that water is getting between the keel and the hull.

Boats including 439's, 419's and 389's are arriving in British Columbia with their keels in place. What size boat are you talking about?

Interesting, I saw a 40' Bene at Lynnwood a while ago arrive with the keel laying on it's side on the trailer. Perhaps it depends on the specific model, and keel option?
Regardless of whether the keel was bedded at the factory or upon delivery, it was clearly not done correctly and should be a warranty matter. The broker who sold the boat should be responsible for taking care of it. Who pays for it is their problem, but certainly it should not be the person who just dropped several hundred grand on a new boat.
That is my point.
