Any ideas on how to fix this? The shower pump comes on, the water over the shower drain ripples a little but does not drain. The sea cocks are open.

Need to check that the pump is actually sucking. I assume there is no filter to clear, none on my boat. The valves in the pump can be jammed open with small debris. I had a similar problem with the bilge pump on my boat - the valves had not been positioned properly in assemble and were remaining partly open.

My shower drain has a screen, and that has been completely blocked by accumulated junk, preventing any flow. I would look for that.

Funnily enough, was looking at my 439 forward heads shower drain the other day and wondering how a blockage could be cleared (if it occurred) as there is no easy access under the shower floor. The extract pump access is bad enough. There is a screw in the centre of the shower drain cover, but if like a common bath type fitting, undoing this could just allow the fitting to fall apart.

Never release the drain’s centre screw , that much is clear !! In case of a blockage of the main-drain-hose , there is always the possibility of compressed air to blow debris through after disconnecting the shower pump’ s suction . I find it strange there is no filter/strainer provided in new boats , I have to clean and get the rubbish out of mine annually . Hair , skin ( after sunburn ) fabric fibres , you name it , a displacement pump usually has a hard time with that . If a filter is not there I would surely get one in myself . Regards

We have a small screen purpose-designed for shower and tub drains. Though we clean it weekly, at least, it is not the kind of job a pump-mounted in-line filter would be.
I'll note that my hand-powered piston bilge pump that normally lives in the dinghy has been useful for forcing water thorugh blockages in several drains. Just remove the hose from the downstream pump first.

I got it working again. I'm not sure how, i think it needed priming. I ran the pump a few times, moved the boat for 5 hours today and the pump worked on testing today and I took a shower with it and it was normal.
Still, I'll take it bit I'd like to know what happened. I have the boat getting work done and this was almost immediately after putting the boat in the water this season.
