Just a note of caution. I am not sure everyones boat is the same, but this is a piss poor way to design the fuel gauge for a boat.
on my 2003 Jeanneau 43 DS It just so happens that to read the fuel level in the cockpit on the Yanmar Panel (B Panel if anyone is wondering) you have to hold a switch up. That is fine even though all my other boats always showed the fuel level - no requirement to hold a switch up.
But the BIG ISSUE is that if you blow the little "in line fuse" (happens to be 0.25 Amps) in line coming from the fuel tank (which sits right on top of the fuel tank) then when you flick the switch to read the fuel gauge it reads FULL !!
So a blown fuse will make the fuel guage always READ FULL ! Thats totally stupid -- when there is a blown fuse or failure the guage should GO TO ZERO and not read anything. In this case its just the opposite .
So a blown fuse can make you think your fuel tank is FULL -- Crazy !

Hi tsenator,
It certainly sounds like a design that could lead to running out of fuel pretty easily!

One could add an indicator lamp to the circuit. Hold the switch and if the lamp doesn't light, you have a blown fuel sending unit fuse. Maybe a green LED?

This is exactly the problem I have so thanks for your post! Where's the inline fuse please?

This is exactly the problem I have so thanks for your post! Where's the inline fuse please? The inline fuse is right on top of the black fuel tank under the main salon floor . Just lift up that floor board. You will see electrical wires there with a small yellow in-line fuse holder-- I think its only about 0.25 amp fuse.

Hi tsenator, It certainly sounds like a design that could lead to running out of fuel pretty easily! Trevor Yes Trevor -- you could say so ..... don't ask me how I know lol

Hi all.
My gauge reads full when the switch is down. Shouldn't be full (not far off though). Looked for fuse on top of tank but no joy. I assume I just follow the sender leads 'somewhere'. Any other locations I should look?

Any other locations I should look? Yeah -- I guess you will have to "trace" it down, Not sure what other locations it would be .
