Has anyone replaced the incandescent bulb in their anchor light with an LED? I have replaced all of the cabin lights in my SO35 with LEDs and like them very much. I would like to replace the anchor light also to save battery power during anchoring.
Does anyone know what type of bulb would be needed? I'd rather not climb up there and take the existing light apart without having a replacement in hand.
Thanks, Don

donreaves - which interior lights did you use? I am debating doing the same thing with interior and exterior lights as well but the costs are pretty high and I haven't heard too many positive reports regarding the interior lights, many people complain that the color temperature isn't comfortable. By all accounts just replacing the bulb (particularly for colored lights) isn't as good or efficient as purchasing a sealed purpose-built light. I don't have the link handy, but there is a German cmopany that makes high-quality sealed lights that are also approved for use in Europe as well as by the CG.

That's a good point about replacing the entire masthead unit. More expensive, of course, but probably more rugged. The lights I used inside were from www.superbrightleds.com. On the wall lights, I used 1156-PCB-WHP9 White High Power LED Lamp (Warm white color) For the ceiling and reading lights, I used G4-WHP6 White LED Lamp (Warm white color) These lights are not inexpensive. The wall units cause $20 each (US) and the ceiling lights cost $15 each. When I first started, I tried two different colors, cool white and warm white. The cool white provides a color very much light a cool white fluorescent bulb, which is really not very good. The warm white is much better, but still a cooler color than the incandescent lights it replaces. They also aren't quite as bright as they lights they replaced, but they're definitely good enough. I'm happy with the change. Thanks, Don

Hi Guys When I took delivery of the boat in March I had a LOPO light put on the top of the mast. this is ALL LED and has an anchor light in it. The last time we anchored I put the light on at 2100 and turned it off at 0530. The volt meter read 12.4 Volts and when I turned it off it read 12.4 Volts. As far as interior lights are concerned. I bought 4 sol lights and these are LED but they have a solar panel on them so they can be charged during the day. They also have a red light a white light and will automatically come on in the dark go here you will not be disappointed www.sollight.com/I am very pleased with the lights and they seem to show up OK. Happy sailing. Geoff.
