Has anyone built storm shutters for windows on a DS43 to bring it up to New Zealand Cat1 offshore spec?
In NZ there’s a very strict set of specs for boats going offshore and one of them is the maximum size of windows, which I think my DS43 exceeds. So I either need to build some storm shutters or modify the windows to make them smaller.
Any suggestions or experience with this?

Interesting comment.
I have come across 43DS and 40DS in many far off places and don't recall anyone mentioning storm shutters. Of course it is not just these two boats that have large windows Discovery and Oyster (to mention just two)are both offshore yachts which perhaps have even bigger windows.
Maybe this rule is unique to NZ?

Yes, it's a New Zealand specific requirement. Given NZ is so far from the rest of the world, and to get to or from it you need to cross some rather nasty parts of the oceans, there are very strict regulations for boats wanting to depart from NZ. It only applies to NZ registered boats, so visiting boats are exempt. Despite the rules being quite harsh they are all quite sensible and are there to save lives. FYI here's the link to the regulations, the window specific rule is 13.11: NZ Cat 1 Regulationswww.yachtingnz.org.nz/resources/yachting-new-zealand-safety-regulations-sailing-2017-2020 Cheers Mike
