Ahoy! I am looking at buying a 1986- Espace 990. I can't find any information, reviews , specs or layouts of this model. Can anyone help me?
Would love to hear back from someone who has sailed or owned the Espace 990. Is it a siff boat? Would it be good for Caribbean/Bahamas sailing? Any opinions would be most helpful.
Thanks and fair winds, Allan

Thanks and fair winds, Allan Allan Personally I think they are great and were the direct forerunner of the current Sun Odyssey Deck Saloons and very pioneering. Regret I have not sailed one but if you compare sail area to displacment with more recent craft it would look like they should have good performance We did look at one a couple of years ago, the layout is very clever , the inside steering position felt rather cramped and the complexity of the cable linkage may need investigation, you could always change to a remote autopilot for the inside steering position though The build quality should be good, but get a surveyor to look out for the obvious issues like grounding damage, osmosis etc etc Let us know how you get on Malcolm

Thanks for the comments Malcolm!
I agree with you that the lower helm is cramped. I was planning on eliminating it and using the space for something else. A remote auto pilot is surely the way to go! There are only 3- Espace 990's in North America and there is absolutely no information on that model. The previous post listed a few sites to check out. I found the layouts, some pics but everything was in French or German. Lucky for me my wife is fluent in both languages. I'll have her translate but nautical terms aren't her thing!
I find the Espace attractive and appears to be the right size for our needs. However I wish I could locate the centre-board model. It would be a big bonus in the Bahamas!
I'm awaiting the broker to provide me with more details about the boat I've looked at. I'll keep you posted how things turn out.
Anyone else who can help me please post a message here.
Fair winds, Allan

The floor plan is english, the brochure itself is both French - mostly, but some english......
If you get everything in French or german, go the the jeanneau-owners link, there is the ability to have 3-5 language's, click the english one, then look for specifications on the left, click that, click sailing, then you will be into the area where you can choose the brochures etc that are available.
