Hello all, Working on the principle that there are no stupid questions here is one that may be the exception to the axiom.
We are seriously considering the purchase of a 95 SO 37. She appears in very good condition, but I don't have a clear understanding of how the "grid system" would appear when looking under the floorboards. When lifting floorboards I see plywood floors on edge to which the floorpanels are screwed.
There is one smallish well were a bilge pump is fitted - this about midships - and so on. Apart from the plywood floors there is no "grid" that I can see. Should this grid system be evident or does this sound like a boat that has been repaired?
And, yes a complete survey is being scheduled.

Jeanneau have only recently introduced a "Grid" system, probably only in the last 3 years or so, so your 1995 SO37 will be more traditionally built - IE once the hull has been moulded then long wooden stringers will have been glassed in and also floors likely to also be wooden have been fibreglassed in to produced the support for the sole boards and other interior cabinet work. In the Jeanneau's I have seen they tend to paint out the bilges with a white/light grey bilge paint or flowcoat (resin with wax) to make things look neater. I would inspect the bulkhead join areas carefully, these should be well bonded on a 1995 model, without any sign of stressing - although note the flowcoat can get hairline cracks under normal usage. Also check the keelbolt area for signs of stress, as you say you are wisely investing in a surveyor, who should be able to give an opinion for any keel damage etc The bilge sump you rightly surmise is an integral part of the main hull moulding, which normally fits into an equivalent aperture left in the keel casting Good luck and hope you end up being a Jeanneau owner

Thanks for that webcrew. The keel bolts are glassed over and - is that typical -, yes, the bilge has been painted/jelcoated out. The boat has been lightly used with very few stress cracks any where I have looked.

Jeanneau seems to glass over the keel bolts from that period and earlier also. My 85 is that way too. Along with being built per how Malcolm mentioned too.
