We just had a look at a new 2018 NC895 at the Seattle Boat show. This one arrived just in time for the show from the new assembly line in Cadillac Michigan. We have one on order with Sundance (so far a great experience), to be completed at the factory in April, so we looked forward to taking a close look at this boat. And after looking at everything else at the show I still have no doubts about our purchase. This thread is for anyone that would like to chat about the new boats coming out of Cadillac.
We were very pleased with the 2018 minor enhancements and the overall quality of the workmanship. Improvements include lots of lighting like reading lights and LED floor lighting, the higher quality seat and bed cushion fabric, color/finish of the woodwork and cushions, radio speakers both in the salon and outside in the cockpit, and a door stop for the bathroom door. We were hoping to see the optional cabinets in the master bedroom but unfortunately there were not on this boat. The only design issue I have with the 895 is the optional bow seat and its unchanged for 2018. The seat, once "deployed", is at an uncomfortable angle. It leans backwards quite a bit and with the low back a person can't sit comfortably. The entire seat should be angled forward perhaps 25 degrees (a guess). And when I talked to the Jeanneau rep that was at the show he said "I know" before I even finished my description of the problem. Regardless, my wife wants to get the bow seat and cushion option. I think I can easily modify the support legs to move the seat into a more upright position. And having the entire cushioned area on the bow for taking in some sun or reading a book will be nice. The only workmanship issue I noted is the quality of the caulking. This is the white or brown caulk that is applied in the corners where walls meet the hull, between walls and floor in some places, around the bow thruster hull enclosure, etc. On my 695 (now sold) it was beautifully applied being smooth and consistent. I marveled how nicely it was done, looking like it was somehow machine applied. On the new 895 it was rough in places, somewhat inconsistent in size, dirty here and there (rather than perfectly clean white), and not fully applied at two places that I noticed including one spot at the bow thruster. This is not a deal breaker. I was in Quality Assurance in my former working life and I'm pretty picky. Most folks might not even notice this. But I'm hoping they make improvements in this area.
So that's my summary. We're excited about being out on Puget Sound on our new 895 this summer!
