I have an 1983 Sunshine 36 with the oringinal wooden rudder. After hauling out this fall I noticed a few cracks in it as if it was starting to delaminate. I used a hammer to tap the surface but didn't detect any difference in sound. How can I check the integrity of the rudder . Should I be concerned? Is it repairable or would I need a complete replacement which would mean big$$$.

Hi Mike, I have had 2 Fantasia's both had rot in the rudder. I am currntly repairing rudder #2. If you have doubts I recomend you use a belt sander to remove the finish so you can see the actual wood. Mine had a crack 60% way through under the lower mounting bracket. Good luck,Richard ,skip;Essex
