Does anyone have any information on the original DC electrical panel for the Sun Shine 36's or 38's? I am wondering what the momentary push-button switches to the left of the on-off switches for the DC circuits are for as well as what the three momentary push-button switches below labeled A, B & C are for.
Thanks - Bob s/v Aeolian 1986 Sun Shine 36/38 Seattle, WA

Bob, Do you have a picture of the one on Aoelian? I may be able to compare it to my 85 Arcadia and see if they are the same. If the buttons you are talking about are the ones I am thinking they are, those buttons hold a typical round about an inch long fuse. Which can be blown if you cross wires...............don't ask me how I know this......... Or if you are in Edmonds any time soon, let me know, you can come look, or I am working in yarrow point and go back and forth across 520 every day, so a trip to magnolia is not that hard either. i am hoping the weather is a bit clearer and but still cold as forecast, and may make a daysail to kingston. marty

They are cicuit breaker reset switches. The ones marked A, B, C are for the cabin lighting circuits. I haven't yet tracked down which zones A, B, and C are yet, but as I am in the process of rewiring right now, I will track this down and let you know. If you look real closely at your panel, you will see the graphics for a light bulb next to each of the A, B, and C as well as graphics for each of the others, Running lights, Anchor lights, etc.
While you are at it, I would suggest that you inspect your DC wiring and look for any Round Black wiring that has a light green and light red conductors. This wire is dangerous and should be disconnected immediately and replaced ASAP. It virtually crumbles to the touch! and could short out. I found two of these, one going to my water pressure pump and the other to my fuel gauge sensor from the Yanmar panel in the cockpit. There could be others on your vessel.

Marty & Floraseña,
Thanks for the info on the DC electrical panel. Now that you have explained it to me it all makes sense. It has been too cold and rainy to make any progress on my water heater and diesel heater projects in the Stbd Laz, so I have had to content myself with tracing down abandoned wires and pulling them out. I have not found any wires matching Floraseña's description, but I have discovered lots of other questionable items like lights wired with speaker wire and the entire AC system wired with household solid wire romex and wire nuts!
Thanks - Bob
