Hi, I am about to take delivery of a new 39i and am thinking of having it coppercoated instead of antifouling paint. Does anyone have any opinions/experience with this. The attraction is the reduction in maintenance, but I wonder if this would affect the hull warranty if anything goes wrong.

I also like the idea of this. 7 years ago Jeanneau were not happy with the idea when I raised it for our 34.2 but things may have changed. I would ask the dealer and if they agree get it writing, you certainly do not want to void the hull warranty. Some systems may need the gel coat abraded to ensure adhesion Where will you be sailing your SO39i ? I also have an SO39i on order, due delivery Feb 2008 to Burnham Essex Malcolm Hi, I am about to take delivery of a new 39i and am thinking of having it coppercoated instead of antifouling paint. Hi
I was going to get this done on my new 36i. I have decided to go the "old fashioned" route for the following reasons. 1. The coppercoat has to be put on in ideal conditions and preferably inside. 2. The initial cost would be re paid after about 8 years. 3. The additional weight on the boat, I thought negated the "benifits" of copper coat.
A well applied (2 coats) of a hard racing type material will be sufficient to see a boat through the season and also allow buffing/cleaning during the year to get rid of any growth.
Geoff.
