I have been advised that the gas bottle locker on my MF805 is not compliant with the requirements of BSS certification. Apparently it needs a dedicated vent to the outside. Has anybody else run into this problem? At the same time, are there any other features on standard boat they would need modifying before it can be certified?

This is very surprising. I inspect boats as part of the US Coast Guard's vessel safety check program. I have never seen a boat manufactured with a propane locker that does not have an overflow drain of some kind. Are you sure that your's doesn't have one? Look in the locker at or near the bottom for a hole indicating the exit. If you can access the outside of the locker (often difficult, but not impossible) see if there is a hose that leads overboard.

I think they rely on the scupper round the lazzarette hatch which drains overboard to the starboard side of the transom. LPG being heavy this will work fine providing the outlet doesn't block.

Thanks for info. I certainly don't have any dedicated outlet from the locker and I suspect the idea of the gas escaping down the edge of the lazarette is what is intended. I think however the inspectors will not accept the seal on the lazarette hatch as good enough. Also the gas locker is only about 30 cm from the cabin door. Again I think this is a problem.
