I mounted a Selden whisker pole on my SO 39i mast per Selden's specifications and the jib sheets snag under the pole and between the pole and the mast. I tried tying a line to the mast base through the jaw but that didn't help much. Was thinking of mounting a pad eye forward on the hump and tying a line from there through the jaws. Anyone tried this or have a better solution? Any hints or tips on mounting the pad eye in that location? The link is a picture of what didn't work. goo.gl/photos/oX3ActnEUUGHZdLX6![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/SZ7_LSveS_noeXNJvurCdklISgpTdEbCuDyvRLX0W7G-fZ7h-Jz8GzpIPml4BBTAHpvnbYXIhPUQVI_xhCPolaFjOQPvGVzs7p6u733ATAUgIKx7vVhZju281DqYk6WfNBLJC72Cfnr8UIVu5BaNjOqYMF6ulRnNp-jlBCemEiZu74eh7k1T61Bu6M6v72eoow_i6UvMei03PupCsK9e69JQqwWx1nMCwNFtvMwsJAxc9yryLzdhDCVrDIuViSYd51MNfxAdE_wLkqHUAaRXMSaSNYpdUgJsczmRu4JYicmU3omZDWHLiBecR0t_F8II0fNTRiaCOMrQkTl5FzCPbGTXrfoZe-Ylemc1SKI7DULR2T4QJSZspqLQm_4TiXNM_XQDYcrdy5JTkuiBq5g51diD_PgWpGU1pZ-GZJW5B0SHazMILZrlcnwAEtmEO95otfPjbY0hYKJLZWjpLUfk_C4Rjd9t6DvdgkmDUp5FdGd64IEhnf5U427MHdosQby3GkjvhZp41XFBFfPwrx60cnCxSV-rgKcHYHixZF1nE_Zos28sRPrL7S7pTgtvbavRHx6Kl-3np4JGzoirgo9Aig-p7PuXoiajgcTKBlhTA6KqiUKfxasfrcwI2dLnVbFAdDltaL-eg_Ztkcvp9-Xe37P6-EEOF7NHsQ=w1368-h769-no) As a tip for anyone mounting a pole in the future, I would suggest mounting it a least a foot higher to avoid this problem. Not sure if it's any help but our spinnaker boom lives inboard on the lifeline stanchions when it's off duty and never seems to cause trouble there. Depending on your sailing conditions and frequency of use, maybe a practical alternative. That location was chosen by the previous and first owner of the boat, a rather fanatical sailor (did the Transpac 3X etc.) and in general I've found little cause to modify any of his choices (although I have a vanishing fraction of his experience).

In the picture - how exactly are the sheets snagging? That looks like a very neat solution to me...and how I have it on my boat roughly.
I get caught lines when tacking, the clew of the sail catches on anything when tacking - but never on the spin pole.

We have a similar line from the end of the pole to the mast base. It prevents the worst snag disasters, but not all. Over two years, we've found that being careful with the jib sheets, to ensure sufficient slack as the clew moves across the mast when tacking, is the most effective fix. If you try to pull in the lazy-becoming-working sheet too soon or too aggressively before the clew clears the mast, a snag is likely.

I had your exact problem with some pretty catastrophic tacks. I did the exact solution you suggested and it has worked great. I ran the spin halyard to the pad eye forward of the mast and my jib sheets never got caught again on a tack.

The solution that has worked great for over a year. Installed a padeye at the base and a simple loop into the jaws of the pole does the trick. ![](https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOp3-Xw8cYSeyrG-hWEBazerzeINNbJh68QTYAagxJ2tx-jhP9tqF1q4blk4sC53g/photo/AF1QipNS2TpHAdqCZ6NhLsWRElprpqbAPRClCXxlY8Q0?key=YVRKTzl1ZkRqM3hNdDFvY3pqVjFBOUhLa1FXQVR3) ![](https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOp3-Xw8cYSeyrG-hWEBazerzeINNbJh68QTYAagxJ2tx-jhP9tqF1q4blk4sC53g/photo/AF1QipNS2TpHAdqCZ6NhLsWRElprpqbAPRClCXxlY8Q0?key=YVRKTzl1ZkRqM3hNdDFvY3pqVjFBOUhLa1FXQVR3) photos.app.goo.gl/EuTTh9VNqAJ4qWBa6Best, Caxton

Seem to remember a thread a little while ago that suggested Jib sheets snagging was a bit of a problem on many Jeanneau models. There was a useful link to a German company that made a special port/stb sheet with a soft link to the sail. Can anyone remember which thread this was?

Hi leave the downhaul attached to the Pole. No problems snagging the genoa sheets. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/mktZxqw0/spidownhaul.jpg)
