Hi, I just lifted my Sun Way 29 and upon inspection of the cutless bearing in the P-bracket it was immediately evident it's due replacement. So I removed the prop and the set screws and managed to simply pull the bearing out without damage and without needing any tools. The bearing seems all "rubber like" (sorry I don't know the exact name for the material) and has no bronze outer shell. It has a wedge at one end (prop side). The dimensions are as follows:
shaft: 25mm Outer bearing diameter: 36mm overall length: 75mm
My questions:
1. can some one point me to a supplier of such bearings, ideally on line 2. should I replace the all "rubber" bearing with one that has an external bronze shell? 3. I managed to source a bearing with bronze shell but whose outer diameter is 35mm instead of 36mm, would adding a shim to make up for the difference be a reliable solution?
any help would be greatly appreciated, boat is due back in the water in 3 weeks

You should be able to get a replacement from stock from most jeanneau dealers, where are you based? - or by mail try Ian at Clarke and Carter in the UK www.yachtworld.com/clarkeandcarter/clarkeandcarter_7.htmlJeanneau like most French production yachts have all rubber bearings, unlike the standard cutless bearing that has bronze casing. I don't like the idea of a shim myself, would ask the view of a marine engineer The advantage of using a rubber one again is that they are relatively easy to replace I would check that your shaft is not worn as well Malcolm

I replaced my 7 year old cutless last year.
I looked all around and could not find it until I contacted Jeanneau America. After a short phone call and a credit card order the correct bearing arrived from France in 3 days.
One thing I would do different is to order the replacement set screws along with the bearing. I thought that they would be included but alas no.

I obtained my bearing from Westaways in Plymouth who posted the part straight away. Keep the old screw and that will solve the problem.

I have noticed a strong vibrating when the engine is at certain revs and the boat is moving and I am guessing this is the cutlass bearing. The boat a SO39i has only been in the water for a year so it seems strange that the cutlass bearing would have blown up already. I have not pulled the boat out to be absolutely sure.
Has anyone else had similar issues with relatively new boats?

Might also be down to marine growth/barnacles. Do you have the standard fixed three blade prop? The cutless should last at least a couple of seasons, unless there was a major shaft alignment problem I would be surprised if the bearing is too worn unless you have clocked up a massive number of motoring hours of course IMHO worth getting a diver to have a look or haul out Malcolm I have noticed a strong vibrating when the engine is at certain revs and the boat is moving and I am guessing this is the cutlass bearing. :-/Don't rely on Clake & Carter for your spares. Rang them 6 times. Emailed 5 times over several months and still didn't receive a response or the cutless bearing I needed. Had to replace the prop and hope to get another season out of the cutless bearning. Won't be buying my next new Jeanneau from Clarke & Carter that's for sure. My £100K can go somewhere else where the service is better assured.

I agree Clarke & Carters are useless & they go under several different websites for Jeanneau parts on the web. I waited weeks for a price on a mast part from them, got it in the end from euro spars. Eurospars provided me with an excellent service for sparcraft parts. For Jeanneau cutlass bearings and other Jeanneau parts I have had a good service from Westways of Plymouth & Sea Ventures. Yanmar & Volvo engine parts I use Keypart UK. Hope this helps everyone. Just some more advise shop around for parts that are in stock or Jeanneau dealers will charge you the cost of delivery from France & it is not cheap!

Very old thread, but sorry to hear you 2 have had slow "deliveries" from Clake & Carter for your spares, I have had great help and deliveries from them all the way down under, on the plus side you have now found alternative suppliers ;D
Cheers

I fully agree with flightdeck. I have used this dealer for over 30 years - we bought and sold our first 20 footer through them in the late 70's. They are are a dedicated and knowledgeable team. Whilst it is frustrating if a part is not efficiently sourced or an enquiry promptly handled, it is not helpful to attempt to brand a complete organisation as "useless" over one transaction. None of us is perfect.
This forum is to encourage positive debate and information exchange between jeanneau owners and care must be taken when making posts that information is reasonable, accurate and justified.
