Is it possible to take off valve covers removing only engine room hatches? Or must I remove something else.

Hi Artsi,
Yes it is perfectly possible to remove the rocker boxes for tappet adjustment by only removing the hatches in the saloon floor. Two things to be careful with:
1) When removing the rocker cover from the front cylinders there is a wire which goes through the cover itself and takes an impulse from the number one injector. This provides synchronisation for the EDC system so it is important the the wire is not broken. The cover can be laid on top of the cylinder head with the wire still in place whilst the tappets are adjusted.
2) The silicon gaskets for the covers are no longer made by Volvo so exercise care in their removal. They can be re-used if lifted off carefully without any leakage problems. If damaged it is best to consider using a silicon sealant put into the groove in the cover and placed on a sheet of glass to cure. This ensures perfect flatness and works well.
Good luck, Napoleon
