Does anyone have experience/suggestions regarding which type of propeller (folding or feathering) to install on a SO43 DS if one wants to replace the fixed prop that comes from the factory (at least with our boat)? A 3-blade flex-o-fold (folding prop) has been installed on sister boat in Finland (recommendation of Jeanneau importer in Finland), but I'd be interested to hear about alternatives before purchasing one.

I just got a 42DS and asked the dealer. In the past, I installed a 3 bladed feathering MaxProp on a Catalina 42- Incredible. No vibration, improved performance, and great backing. The dealer just said that Martec has improved their props - I had a friend who had a Martec folding prop that had some vibration and backing problems. If they have solved that, I have heard folding props have less maintenance than feathering. Let us know how it works out. Steve

Let me know what you find out. I'm considering a feathering or folding prop from my 42DS.

I just returned from 8 days of sailing my 43DS up the Finnish coast, and the newly installed Flex-o-fold 3-blade 20-inch folding prop has improved considerably the performance compared with the factory installed fixed-blade prop. I can't yet give a precise description of how much one gains in sailing speed in various conditions, but the improvement even when motoring is considerable: same cruising speed with substantially lower revs (e.g. 2200 vs. 2600 rpm).
