The standard steering wheels fitted to the lower and upper helm positions are of the "Boy Racer" type supplied in this country by Aquafax. They work perfectly well but don't look the part. I would like to change them for something more appropriate that look as if they were designed for a boat. My initial research indicates that any number of wheels are available with the standard 3/4" shaft which is based on the ubiquitous 1:12 taper. However, the steering hydraulic pump units to which the wheels are fitted is made by the Jeanneau supplier L & S, a company on the French Spanish border. I have emailed and found them very helpful but quite insistent that they have only ever supplied Jeanneau with pumps having a spindle with a taper of 2.5 deg per side i.e.. 5 deg inclusive. Aquafax are equally sure they have never supplied any wheels with other than a standard 3/4 taper. I appreciate the obvious way to find out is to remove a wheel and check but as there is a chance of damage occurring during removal I would prefer to have the knowledge first. Jeanneau and several of their UK agents do not know the answer. Has anyone ever removed a wheel to find out?
