I'm thinking about using Hempel/Blakes antifouiling but struggling to decide between Ocean Performer and Cruising Performer looking at the following chart: File-1343048446.pdf (88.79 KB) Ocean Performer seems a lot better - but would be very happy if someone can give me a advice based on own experience...

I've decided to go with the cheaper one - and test it - the Cruising Performer - as there were no feedback about any notable differences ...

As I had just soda blasted 10-15 years of old anti-foul off the boat and had to add a barrier coat I was going to look into copper coat as well. However my budget is quite stretched before the soda blasting I decided to forgo that treatment. And I couldn't find a price anywhere, so that means it is quite spendy. Even in the rarified boating world. But it would be very nice to just put a decent coat of paint on the bottom and ignore it, for the most part, for 10 to 20 years. I don't know the prices of things in Spain, but as near as I can tell with exchange rates being what they are most everything costs about the same to more expensive depending on rarity. And bottom paint is ridiculously expensive.
As as this is my first boat I guess I'll find out later this year when I haul it how effective my treatments do over the longer term.

I had coppercoat on my previous boat in UK and for the 6 years that I've owned it all was perfect - once per year out for 2 days just pressure wash and brush for - about 2 hours in total, renew the prop antifouil and back in water all was GREAT - I LOVE copercoat - price was very good in UK - £1500 all inclusive e.g. new base layer, cleaning, spraying all ... but I'm currently in south FRance - St Cyprien and the coppercoat dealer in France suggested a office in very close to me ( 5 miles) but I've struggled to get in touch with them.. after two call and 5 email - they finally replay that they are busy till Jul , but no indication when they can overtake the job at all... in the end I needed to change my propeller with bigger ( overprop version) and as the boat was out I decided to put new antifouil myself with help from my wife... I got a good price for 2.4l can of Hempel Cruisingh Performer for £49 got it with me in the checked luggage on the plane and done the job myself all great so far took about 1 day in total for washing/cleaning, scraping and painting - one coat ... very happy so far ... BTW: put a surf wax(2 EUR) on top of the the prop and shaft antifouiling- seems really good idea - checked the was today after 25 hours of motoring ( not counting the sailing) and all wax is still there and everything seems perfect - the expectation is that the wax should last about 3 months and need to be applaied again which can be done underwater

Antifouling is classed as hazardous cargo and not really suitable for hand or checked luggage, in fact you might remember the declaration you made when you checked in.

Thanks for the claqrification - next time I will ask force4 to directly ship it to France - but I will still buy from UK as the price for the
same 2.5L in USHIP is 151 EUR compared to £49...

Hi Vasko, just regular surfboard wax? Never heard that one before but will definitely clean my prop this weekend and apply some and see how good it works in my tropical, enriched waters here in Trinidad.

yep, just the one for about $1 - make sure you have the type for the water temperature you are in and every two weeks when you dive around the boat can reapplay it under water - no problem, works on the shaft and p bracket too - and lasts the about 2-3 months on them

btw it all, depends how much you are motoring if not motoring the wax really last about 3 months if you are motoring a lot , makesure you reapplay from time to time underwater....

We got 3 years our of ours. Will have to paint this year and will start the analysis of what to paint with here in Turkey.

What paint you have used to last 3 years ? Stuff you can only get in a few parts of the Caribbean. Just the water line needed to be cleaned. But now needs to be sanded a bit and painted.

Only available in a few places that I know of in Carib and we got some similar in Colombia I have not started my research yet but in the past I had fair success with Micron 66 so will take at hard look at micron 77.

ChuckR I will be in the Caribbean next year and was holding off getting the bottom painted until I get there. What is the exact brand and grade of paint you had done in Trinidad?

Well went up to a chandlery yesterday to see what paints are available and they have SeaJet, Micron, and Moravia. Lots to time to do some research to see which I will put on in the spring. Will try a couple of more cities and see what they have before I decide.
