I have recently purchased a Merry Fisher 655, 2007 model. On each side is a plastic panel and I was wondering a) what they are for and, b) where I could get spare ones as one has a hairline crack in and the other one has 3 cracks along the top of it. The imgur link below shows the part that I am on about. maxemoo.imgur.com/all/Thanks in advance.

When I visit your link, I get the message "maxemoo's images are not publicly available."
Perhaps you could make some of your images public.
(I won't be able to help you with your problem, but others may be able to.)
Thanks, Don

I looked at your picture and then looked at some close up pictures of my 2007 Merry Fisher 655 in the Solent and I am as puzzled as you are.
It's too cold and miserable to go to the boat at the moment but it is coming out on the 15th for it's annual clean up in Keyhaven so I will make some enquiries at the yard and if I find out anything tangible I will post it.
All I have used them for is to hang on to when I am cleaning round the hull with a brush in the dinghy but I don't expect that is what those highly paid designers put them there for.
Don.
Off topic....does your fuel gauge have to be switched on each time you want to see the fuel level?

Thanks for your reply, bombastique.
After looking at them today, I think they maybe something to do with venting the engine compartment as, when the engine cover is down and the engine running, there is nowhere else for the engine heat to go. That is the only thing I can think of!!!!
As for the fuel gauge, I have to have the battery isolator switches on and lift the switch next to the fuel gauge to get a reading.
I have only had the boat since February so I am on a learning curve!!!

Also to allow the engines to breathe - they need a lot of air

The fuel gauge can be set to be live all the time. A techie in France took the cover off the rear of the instrument panel in the loo and re set it. That means I can see the fuel level all the time. I think the idea is to save battery life.

With reference to the fuel gauge. I made a simple connection to an ignition switched feed behind the panel and then saving the battery is irrelevant as with the ignition on the engine is normally running.
