The Stop (Engine Kill Press Button) on the panel to starboard corroded and broke. A clown in Gosport who purports to know all about electrical problems and runs a marine repair business, (Haha) from a shop on the main road, pulled off all the wiring and was unaable to complete the work due to complete incompetence. I have managed to obtain a replacement switch but as all the wires had been removed and do not 'fall nicely' to give me an idea of what goes where, I am asking for any help with this small problem. There are six wires in all for the switch like a set of pips on a domino. The two centre wires are an earth and ignition supply which feeds the lilliput bulb inside the switch housing to illuminate the switch assembly at night. This I can get working. This leaves four other pins with no clear idea which wire goes where ? Not wanting to cause any wiring burnouts I would like to ask anyone if they can point me in the direction of a wiring diagram as there is none onboard this yacht There is a Brown, Black/Blue trace, White, White/Blue trace, Black and finally another Black (from another direction). The black wires are probably earth and the black/Blue trace seem to operate the switches internal lilliput illumination bulb Can anyone please help with any of the other four wires. Best regards David

Hello lenseman,
I do not know the answer but to give the forum old hands something to go on can you describe what engine is in this boat? Yanmar, Volvo etc. and what is the power of the engine? What is the control panel model? In the Yanmar "type B" control panel I think the stop button only has two wires going to it.
Regards,

Thanks for the suggestion Trevor.
The engine is a Perkins-Volvo M50 with a standard Perkins panel fitted to the starboard side of the cockpit.
The Stop Switch is manufactured by 'Sentinel', type ATL and is illuminated.
Six wires go to this switch, two of which are for illumination once the key is turned on.
Best regards David

Hello lenseman,
I gather the problem leading to this was the engine wouldn't switch off? I think two of the wires disable the audible alarm so the oil pressure warning alarm is silent when he switch is pushed. I think the other pair operate the relay that drives the shutdown solenoid. You may work back from the shutdown solenoid from the engine, locate the relay and see what coloured wire goes from the relay coil to the control panel. Presumably that is the only critical function the switch has to perform. If you get that right my guess is the audible alarm will sound as the engine shuts down even if your stop button is depressed.
If you are concerned about blowing things up you could put a 5 amp fuse in series with everything you try. That way if you really muck it up the worst that could happen is the fuse will blow. I don't think you are dealing with anything too sensitive in this area.
I hope this helps,

Best regards David Hi David, I am new to the forum and recently acquired a sun Charm 39. I like to get in touch with other JSC 39 owners to share information and experiences and maybe create a focussed group of Jeanneau SC 39 owners within the forum. Your post is dated 2015 I see and I hope you still have the SC 39. All best regards, Philip Lescrauwaet
