(am Newbie to this forum)
Boat is a 2001 SO45.2, and we want to replace the winch handle holders. Please see attached photo.
If we remove the holder, will the fasteners behind the fiberglass fall off or stay put? Looking from below in the aft cabin it seems like it will be some effort to access this area.
Any comments on how to replace those winch handle holders?
thanks,
Matt

Hello mattgrob,
Mine have round headed nuts on the other side. If they were unscrewed, the nuts would certainly just fall away.
Good luck with it.

Matt, aren't they just self tapping screws. I'm sure that's what we have on Affinity. Anyway you should be able to use slightly over size self tapping screws to hold the new holders. Make sure you drill out to the correct hole size for the screw to stop the gel coat chipping. I had a small chip come off last year when I added rope bags. Fortunately the rope bags cover the chip. They are bolted down on my SO36i and near impossible to get to the nuts!

They are bolted down on my SO36i and near impossible to get to the nuts! I guess it's a drill out job in that case followed by self tappers???

Yes, I gave up trying to replace a nut that had dropped off and used a self tapper. It has not budged in two years. The other option was to removed panelling above the engine box in the rear cabin which did not look easy.

I have a 45.2 and would think they are just put up with self tappers . You could try and loosen one to see if they are .

I just replaced all three of mine last week on a 43DS and they were self tapper screws sealed with silicon.

Update: I replaced them - was no problem - turns out it was just self tapping screws for us. Sealed with 3M 4000. Looks so much better now.
