Hi P36 owners, I have a question regarding the potential water ingression at the point two drain hoses leave the hull.
1) There is a drain hose from the aft right hand seat locker which can be visible under the aft garage compartment in the form of a large diameter black hose which exits below the water line under the swim platform.
2) There is also a smaller diameter hose which takes away top water from the aft saloon deck via a tray system around the garage lift up door perimeter, again exiting below the water line next to the black locker drain hose.
My question would be, if either of the through glands and/or the hoses split or for that matter came off their glands near the termination point, would the boat flood! and I am guessing, it would not equalise until the water level came up to the through gland level point.
As there are no stop cocks at hull point on either of these outlets, would the ingress of water be enough to sink the vessel? as they are positioned quite high up and would take a lot of water in the hull to equalise and get up to this point!
Can anyone explain the safety design element of these and any other drain apertures that terminate under water level without sea cocks as a safety factor.
Regards
Howard.

Hello Howard,
The pipes you refer to don't actually exit below the waterline. They exit an inch or so above the water line and with normal loading should not ever go below. If they were to come off and you were in a rough sea then technically water could splash up and into the holes but I venture to suggest that is highly unlikely. I share your concern though and what I have done is to double clip the fittings in question (jubilee clips).
regards,
Napoleon

Hi Nepoleon, many thanks for your reply. Interestingly, these two pipes have terminated approx 2" below the water line, hence my caution. However, the reason may be two fold. Both port & starboard fuel tanks are completely full, also the vessel at the time of writing was on fresh water which does cause the hull to sit slightly lower! Anyway, thNks for the advice. Regards, Howard
