Hi there suggest you look up main menu "Hints & Tips" and check out SO32 mainsheet upgrade , looks a good mod. Best of luck.

If you can, make the traveller the full width of the cockpit - the wider the better.

conclusion: New harken mainsheet traveler allows me to controll the boat. As wind speed picks up we are now able to prevent rounding up. We can now compete and have actually won yacht club races.

An altenative to moving the maisheet traveller from the coach roof is to fit a jamming cleat to the top of the cockpit bulkhead after the spinlock cluches so that you can leave the main sheet clutch open and and feed the mainsheet via the jamming cleat to the helm. This way it can easily be released to spill wind when necessary.

Harken main sheet traveler reposition made all the difference in the world. With shoal draft, rounding up in gusts was a problem. We now have become very competive and won the Key West race last year . we raced thru tropical storm BERRY with no problems!

I have added an extra ball bearing turning block to each side of the standard mainsheet traveller on our SO37. This gives extra purchase on the traveller and it is now very free running. We take the traveller control back to the winch on each side and one crew plays the traveller up and down with the gusts. From there the crew can also drop the mainsheet if the traveller is fully down. We do have 2 Harken winches either side of the companion way so that helps and I am adding an extra two Spinlock clutches so that every rope has a permanent home. This is very effective for racing and IMO gives a bigger dump than the floor mounted traveller and as wide an angle as a seat mounted one. What to do for short handed cruising or racing is another matter. I would think about running the mainsheet to the boom end and down to a fine tune ball bearing block set fixed to the centre of the floor if I was doing any serious short handed racing.
